Pope Benedict XVI arrived in USA to heal the wounds
ANDREWS AIR FORCE BASE / WASHINGTON, DC (AFP & REUTERS) - Pope Benedict XVI arrived here Tuesday for a six-day visit during which he hopes to heal the wounds from a decades-long sex scandal which have disfigured the US Roman Catholic church.
US President George W. Bush prepared an unprecedented welcome for the 80-year-old pontiff, becoming the first US leader to greet a visiting head of state at the airport.
More than 9000 are expected in the White House, which qualifies the ceremony the greatest organized for the arrival of a heads-of-state in the US and ever held in the White House.
The head of the Catholic Church affirmed that he is “deeply ashamed” the catholic church was involved in sex scandals and child-abuse and which costs the US and some US dioceses $2 billion, payed for the caused damage.
The pontiff stated to reporters during his flight, that he wish to talk with the US President about helping 3rd World countries in boosting their development thus stopping migration. Finding a solution for terrorism and extremist ideology in the Muslim world will also be a subject.
